Scenic Park Campground, South Sioux City, Nebraska

I have never done this before, blog about a campground. Most of them are just too drab, unexceptionable, forgettable. Not this one. This is one of the best city campgrounds ever, matching some of the best private RV parks, for 1/3 the price.

This campground has spacious level sites, some in the woods, some in the open. Most are backup but there are about a dozen pull-throughs. Most sites are full hookups, water, sewer, electric, TV cable with 80+ channels and WiFi that actually works. All this for $23/night. We stayed for a week and only had to pay for 6 nights,about $19/night.

Diva sits in her spot. That riverboat is across the Missouri River, in Sioux City, Iowa.  It is a casino but has just declared bankruptcy. Don't worry, however. Hard Rock is building a new casino nearby.

A second part of the campground is more open. I think these are mostly full time sites.

Scenic Park is a city park with miles of bike trails, about 6 baseball diamonds, some soccer fields, basketball courts, playground equipment for all ages. A full fledge YMCA and indoor and outdoor pool are in the park.

What a treat it was to find such a nice RV park at such a reasonable rate. Sue Brown, who manages the campground, is helpful and charming. The park keeps about 10-20 sites on a first come first serve basis.

Door County Wisconsin

Well, I'm officially seriously behind on my blog. We were in Door County 2 weeks ago and I'm just getting to it. I will be more timely in posting my blogs! I will be more timely in posting my blogs! I will be more timely in posting my blogs!

Door County, Wisconsin, is a peninsula that juts into Lake Michigan on the eastern side of Wisconsin. The bay on the western side of the Peninsula is Green Bay and the town at the end of the bay, where the Fox River flows in, is where the mighty Packers play. Door County is a playground for this area of the midwest. Think "Cape Cod" or "Monterey Peninsula". Country roads, farms, barns, cherry orchards, apple orchards, beaches, state parks, lighthouses, and lovely small towns draws several million people a year. People come here to soak in art and culture, ride motorcycles or bicycles, taste fine food or roadside food, kayak, or just get married.

PC Junction

PC Junction is a train themed restaurant in the center of Door County.
PC stands for "Peninsula Center"

This was our second trip to Door County. We stayed at the Egg Harbor Campground and RV Resort. This park was so nice and the owners, Mike and Debbie, were wonderful and very accommodating. The location is outstanding for visiting all of Door County.

Holland Michigan

 Holland Michigan is a charming small city in western Michigan located on Lake Macatawa and Lake Michigan. The town was founded by Dutch immigrants in the 1840's escaping religious intolerance. Other small towns in the area are Harlem, Groningen, Zeeland, Vriesland. Tourism is the driving force of the economy. There is a beautiful downtown area, a large historic district, and an extensive beach development. Numerous parks, including one with a dog park that Rosie loved, and miles and miles of bike and hiking trails round out the area's attractions.

The "Tulip Time Festival" ended 2 days before our arrival. Which was great for us.

You can follow the "Tulip Trail" for miles through the town.
The town says the there are 6 million tulips  in the town. That is six for each tourist.

Miles of streets have tulips planted in boulevards like this or on both sides of the street in some neighborhoods.

Lots of campsites at this park. There is a campground at the beach and one further inland.

We stayed at the Oak Grove Campground Resort, a very nice RV Park. It is about 5 miles from downtown Holland.
It is on the bike path that connects to other bike paths.

A visit to Holland Michigan is well worth it. We came, fortuitously, at just the right time, immediately after Tulip Time Festival.
