Peggy's Cove / Halifax / Adventure Caravans Day 24

Peggy's Cove is a small rural community about 25 miles from Halifax. It is officially part of the Halifax government. Fishing was the main industry until the mid 50's. Tourism is now number one. But it still has lobster fishing. The development in the town is highly restricted to preserve its' look.

A five sided dormer (now bordered over) is of Scotch origin.

You couldn't ask for a more solid foundation than the rock this is built upon.

The home of William de Garthe a sculptor and painter.

He apparently thought that this rock was an eyesore so he carved a scene of fishermen and Peggy.

Peggy with strong muscular arms is holding a basket of fish. I guess she forgot her blouse.
Or maybe she was posing to be a masthead for a ship

St. Elmo, the patron saint of sailors, as well as the legendary Peggy. The captain of the ship has the helm.

This is part of a memorial to the passengers who perished in Swiss Air Flight 111, September 2, 1998.

Careful!

How you say "Hi" and "I love you" in Italian.

Help! I've fallen and I can't get up.

Hi, kids. We'll see you in a few weeks.

Today's Black & White. Three artists are painting a scene at Peggy's Cove.

More on Halifax to follow on my next blog. We have great internet service here outside of Halifax so I have to take advantage!

Ciao,  Frank

  2. Peggy's Cove looks as though it hasn't changed in the last 25 years. I painted there myself back then.
